Degrees of Realism 2022 – our third Annual Art Exhibition – opened on Thursday 20 October 2022 in Parkhurst, Johannesburg.
It was a mad dash to get this stunning space right and ready – but it looked so warm and inviting thanks to our collaboration with Home Decor specialists Ashley and Johan from HomeCollab. Their furniture and flair for setting up beautiful spaces is amazing and perfectly complimented the art by our artists.
This year we had over 20 artists represented and this included quite a few miniature pieces as well.

We were lucky enough to welcome Andre Ruthven from Artsavingsclub and Lars Smith from Faber Castell South Africa to the Opening Event – as sponsors they helped us award prizes to our category winners and Best in Show. Their support has been spectacular, and we were bowled over and thankful for their belief in what we do.

For the first time this year we invited entries under different categories:
- Landscape and Botanical
- Portrait and Figure
- Animals, Birds and the Ocean
- Still Life
- Miniature
Though we did not receive enough entries under Miniature and Still Life to warrant prizes this year, we can’t wait to see what the future holds!
Our winners this year received amazing prizes from our sponsors – each category winner walked away with a 36 Faber Castell Polychromos Set, as well as a Faber Castell Pitt Matt Graphite 6 Set and a R1000 voucher from Artsavingsclub.
Our Best in Show winner received a 120 Wooden Set of Faber Castell Polychromos Pencils, a Faber Castell Pitt Matt Graphite Set of 11 and a R1500 Artsavingsclub Voucher!

A big congratulations to our winners!
Best in Show – Chrysoula Argyros ‘Theo’
Best Animal | Birds | Ocean: Kendyll Carle ‘Elegance’
Best Landscape | Botanical: Vincent Reid ‘Heading to Underberg’
Best Portrait | Figure: Rai Sinha ‘Songs of Innocence’

This year we also awarded a People’s Choice Award – voted by the visitors to the Exhibition and this Award went to Henriette van Staden for ‘Kamanassie’

All in all the exhibition was a huge success – once again showcasing the talent of our local artists working in the dry media of charcoal, graphite, coloured pencil and pastel. It is heartwarming to listen to the comments and thoughts of visitors, to see them appreciate the work, skill and time that goes into every piece.
To each of our artists who entered – thank you for trusting us with your artworks and enabling us to put up a show of this magnitude.
