Pastel Artist

Warren Cary

Warren is a highly acclaimed wildlife artist with a distinct style.  He is also the founder of the Warren Cary Wildlife Gallery in Hoedspruit.

Warren Cary is a well-known and celebrated South African wildlife artist.

He was born 14th June 1969 in Johannesburg, South Africa and pursued a career in the printing industry. Over the years Warren dabbled in his passion for art and with a desire to be surrounded by wildlife, Warren abandoned the rat race and relocated to Hoedspruit in 2011, to become a full-time wildlife artist.

Warren specialises in drawing the amazing nature and wildlife of the Greater Kruger National Park that he is so passionate about. This passion is reflected in his award-winning work which has been described as having an individual style of precision, power and eloquence!

As a self-taught artist the detail of the work that he produces is exceptional. Seeing the detail in every single piece of art is breath-taking. Every hair, every feather is perfect, making his work so accurate that it looks almost lifelike.

Although Warren is experienced in all mediums, his medium of choice is graphite pencil and pastels, and he also happens to be the brand ambassador for Faber-Castell in South Africa.

Naturally, Warren is an advocate for wildlife research and conservation, he has held art exhibitions in aid of conservation organizations, donated artworks to raise funds for causes and has loaned his skills to document animal tracks for reference books.

Warren was awarded the David Shepard Wildlife Artist of the year – Category “Animal Behaviour” in 2016

Despite having won worldwide acclaim for his artwork he is not content to rest on his laurels and amongst other pursuits opened the spectacular Warren Cary Wildlife Gallery in Hoedspruit where he showcases some of South Africa’s renown wildlife artists and has created a platform for up-and-coming wildlife artists. Here he willingly shares his knowledge of the arts through wildlife art workshops and safari’s and through the mentorship he gives to emerging artists.

As an artist with his muse being the seduction of the African Bush, Hoedspruit called to Warren Cary as the place to immerse himself in, to be free to observe and experience the African bush, and to express his passion in creating his Wildlife Art Master Pieces.

With a lack of Wildlife Galleries worldwide, Warren felt it was imperative that South Africa needed a space to showcase quality Wildlife Art.

Hoedspruit, being the gateway to some the best wildlife parks and game reserves in South Africa, was the perfect location for a Prestigious Wildlife Art Gallery, and in 2017, Warren, along with 3 other founding artists (Including the extremely talented artist, Kim Kay) opened the doors to the Warren Cary Wildlife Gallery.

The gallery has grown from strength to strength, building a reputation of showcasing Quality Wildlife Artworks, in a space that is elegant, refined, and non-intimidating.

The gallery has attracted a number of extremely talented South African Artists across a range of mediums and showcasing various wildlife art viewpoints. The gallery currently showcases;
